Living in the West Kootenays of B.C., Joie draws her inspiration from everything around her. Using acrylic paints on canvas, she strives to capture the emotions of the scenes she paints. From the calmness of a forest to the moodiness of a stormy sky. She paints the animals in her pieces as a kind of accessory to the landscape. She also loves to paint “action scenes” where she captures the power, movement and tenacity her chosen subject is experiencing. Always looking for a challenge in her work, she tries to paint something a little bit different than what one may expect. She is a self-taught and has been critiqued by Robert Bateman who said some of her pieces were “masterful” and “exquisite”. She is also a signature member of the Artists for Conservation and an exhibiting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. She has been featured in several art shows and won multiple awards.
