I love painting. Putting paint on paper or canvas is my great joy. From a very early age, I was overly conscious of colour, style and design. Now looking back, I realize how many successful decisions were made around these three things. When I paint, I am reminded that I am blessed to have the time to explore my craft and to be surrounded by the grand beauty of the Okanagan. I like to vary my subject material. I have a keen interest in continually attempting new things. It’s exciting and challenging to explore something fresh and unfamiliar. I am continually inspired in my journey as an artist. My choice of medium is made dependant upon the subject of the painting. I begin a piece by first choosing a pleasing and successful composition for the theme of the work. Next, I select the materials and techniques required to suit the piece. Foremost on my mind at this juncture, is how to portray the required mood of the work by utilizing light, colour and texture.
When I finish a painting, I leave it on the easel for several days reintroducing myself to the completed work. This enables me to act on minor changes if necessary. When people see my work, I would like them to feel engaged and moved. It is my hope that the mood of my work will kindle an attachment to and appreciation of my painting.
My plan is to continue growing as an artist, proud to share my creative vision with others.
